Valarie Rider (formerly Van Antwerp) has lived in Reno since 1991, moving here with her young family from Southern California for a better lifestyle. She graduated from the University of Nevada in 1999 with a journalism degree. As her children grew older, Valarie began looking for a way to contribute to her family income as well as to the community. Being a true Reno advocate, she got her real estate license in 2004, beginning her career at Dickson Realty. She was immediately thrilled to be busy with the huge market gains that were occurring during the subsequent few years. The training she received at Dickson was remarkable and still serves her well, however, after five years she decided to move to a smaller brokerage where she could personalize the service she delivers to her clients in a more flexible environment. After earning both her e-PRO and EcoBroker designations, she realized the fit with Humphrey Home Connections was perfect. HHC’s focus on high-tech and high-touch along with green practices made the transition easy.
Valarie considers the community a very important part of her life and has contributed her time to many organizations including the Bring Bri Justice Foundation, PEO, Northern Nevada Destination ImagiNation, Odyssey of the Mind, United States Swimming, and Reno Area Triathletes, among others.
Since her youngest daughter graduated from Reno High School recently, Valarie has had more time to enjoy the fabulous weather and terrain in Reno and its beautiful surroundings. When she is not helping her clients, she can be found on her bicycle climbing the many hills around Reno or running along the beautiful Truckee River. She tries to ride her bike whenever possible in the hope of reducing her carbon footprint, so look for her on the mountain bike she has converted into a cruiser as she heads to the store or post office. She also loves to ski, camp, travel, listen to live music, and garden.
